The Sad Clown Frogs

It's been years since their last show, the one where they were run offstage in a flurry of tomatoes and shouts of a name they would soon call their own: Buffoon. Eventually, they changed it. Not because it hurt, it still does, but because they didn't want it to become a word people could access. A word that could be thrown easily at others the same way it was at them. So they changed it. From a word that dragged in the mud, to a word that was free of the weight that tried to bring it down: Balloon. This was the change that protects. The change that inspires. Yet, the change that whispers, underneath, a damage these frogs can't repair. Now they don't miss a chance. Not one. These frogs are always with the crowd, ready with makeup and ready to make others laugh. They watch people pass, hoping this time, someone will stay. But as their makeup dries out, the party hat itches, and the nose suffocates, the preformance becomes harder to hold together. The weight of their past pull at the corners of their painted expression until the taste of mud returns. But are you surprised? If these frogs spend so much time wishing they could make someone else happy, who is wishing the same for them?Read full bio
